Artists For Change Exclusive Exhibition

Fatima bint Mohamed bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI)’s Artists for Change programme, is a collaboration between well-known UAE artists and underprivileged artisans in Afghanistan, which aims to raise awareness of the cause and promote their talents.
From 21 May to 16 June.

The Exhibition:

1. FBMI will be showcasing the remarkable artworks of four prominent Emirati artists who took part in the ‘Artists for Change program, at Dubai Festival City.

2. The exhibit will also unveil the largest yarn ball ever assembled in the region with a diameter of three meters. The ball of yarn is hand crafted out of 100% indigenous wool, hand-spun by female weavers and dyed with natural vegetable dyes in Afghanistan.

3. Weavers from FBMI will be on site daily from 6pm – 10pm to demonstrate live weaving and carpet making.

4. The aim of the program is to raise awareness of the plight of disadvantaged artisans as well as to promote their talent and capabilities.

About ‘Artists For Change’ program:

The ‘Artist for a change’ program was created to raise awareness of disadvantaged artisans from Afghanistan and promote their talent and capabilities.

Four Emirati artists were invited to be a part of the Artists For Change program;
Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum
Sheikha Mariam Khalifa Al Nahyan
Shamsa Al Abbar
Mohammed Harib.

Each one graciously donated their artwork to be woven into hand-knotted carpets by the FBMI female weavers.

FBMI then sells the hand-knotted carpets of which the proceeds go to back to the women who make these carpets.

FBMI also provides employment to the artisans in Afghanistan along with a range of social benefits.

The Weavers timings:
o Demonstration before Ramadan: 11am - 8pm
o Break Times:2-2.30 pm & 5-5.30pm

Demonstration during Ramadan: 5pm-12am
Break Times:
o Iftar break (7pm): 30-45 mins
o Isha prayer break (8:40pm): 20 mins
